15. FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Can different versions of Outlook® be synchronised?

Yes, this is possible as long as the format of the PST files being used is in conformity:

Hence, under Outlook® 2003 the Unicode format can only be synchronised with the Unicode format and the 97-2002 format only with the 97-2002 format.

The 97-2002 format can also be synchronised between different versions of Outlook®.

Synchronisation doesn’t recognise all of the modified entries. Why are appointments moved an hour ahead?

Please set the time as well as the time zone and handle daylight savings time the same way on both computers.

In Windows® you can modify the setting via Control Panel, Date/Time.

Review the setting in Outlook® as well: It is located in Tools, Options, Preferences, Calendar Options…, Time Zone...

Can the Outlook® AutoArchiving also be used for synchronised folders?

Although the AutoArchiving also continues to function for synchronised folders, you will observe the following modifications:

Please check that the AutoArchiving folder is set to a setting that is appropriate for you. We do not recommend activating the AutoArchiving for both the local and global folders.

What is the significance of the new "PolSync" in the Outlook® Add-In Manager?

The "PolSync" add-in is added at Public SyncTool installation. If the option Synchronisation at Start or Synchronisation at Termination is activated, it enables the Public SyncTool to be correspondingly managed. The add-in itself does not access folders or folder contents.

Does the SyncTool recognise user-defined fields and forms?

Yes, user-defined fields are completely accepted. User-defined forms can also continue to be used. It may be necessary once to correspondingly adjust the view folders: Synchronisation will understandably not change your folder settings.

What happens with links?

SyncTool does not change links. Even after a synchronisation they continue to point to the original entry.

Example:

You create a task in the global folder and add a business partner from a global contacts folder in the contacts field. With a double click on the entry the partner’s contact opens as expected.

Following the synchronisation of the tasks folders and the contacts folders disconnect from the network so that the global folders are no longer available. A double click on the link will now not be able to open the contact: The link will continue to point to the now "missing" global folder.

After you restore connection to the network the link will of course be able to open the contact again as expected.

Can SyncTool be used simultaneously with other synchronisation programs?

This can unfortunately only be determined by testing it out because even we are not privy to the exact mode of operation of the other synchronisation program. Therefore, please check the compatibility for your environment.

Does the SyncTool replace a backup program?

No. A sensible backup strategy also includes the possibility of being able to reliably restore one or more previous versions.

The SyncTool on the other hand supports you in being able to use synchronised current versions.
